THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS was the Hollywood Hot Spot for the motion picture industry in the 40's,50's, and 60's. The City of Rancho Mirage was home to the stars and their Country Clubs, Thunderbird Country Club and Tamarisk Country Club. Rancho Mirage is the home to the world renowned Eisenhower Medical Center, the original "Restaurant Row" and Mission Hills Country Club home of the Dinah Shore LPGA Tournament.

| In 1973 Bill Bone built Sunrise Golf and Tennis Country Club in Rancho Mirage. The units were small, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom condos from 800 sq. ft. to 1800 sq. ft. The 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit sold for $41,500.00. That was 34 years ago and they sell for 8 times that amount now. This Country Club was the first of its kind in the Desert, by 1994 Bill Bone had built Rancho Las Palmas Country Club, also in Rancho Mirage, Monterey Country Club, The Lakes Country Club, Palm Valley Country Club, Indian Ridge Country Club, all in Palm Desert and Toscana in Indian Wells. All of these and many others make up the bulk of the condo/golf and tennis gated country clubs in these cities. |

The City of Palm Desert has more things for more people than any city in the Desert. It is well run, has great parks and public places, excellent schools including The College of the Desert (a two year college) a campus of the University of California is also in Palm Desert. The McCallum Theatre and El Paseo (Rodeo Drive of the Desert). Newer homes in non gated areas area available from $450,000 to $750,000. The City has two Municipal Golf Courses at Desert Willow Golf Center. These are both great golf courses and residents of Palm Desert can play these courses for $45.00 including the cart with GPS system. Palm Desert is also home to Big Horn Country Club. There are roughly 8,000 golf course condominiums in Palm Desert. This is a great city in every very way. The north end near the I-10 freeway is wind prone.

The City of Indian Wells is the smallest city, both in size and by population (under 5,000), but it has the best hotels, The Tennis Garden, home of the "5th Major", the "Pacific Life Open". This small city is home to the new Toscana Country Club, Indian Wells Country Club, El Dorado Country Club, The Vintage Country Club, The Reserve Country Club and Desert Horizons Country Club. And, like Palm Desert, Indian Wells also has two Municipal Golf Courses, The Celebrity Course (current home of the Skins Game) and the Pro Players Course, and resident/owners can play for $35.00 including carts with GPS. Indian Wells is not within 2 miles of the Interstate 10 freeway and thereby no wind. The City of Indian Wells has the highest income per capita of any city in the State of California.

The City of La Quinta is not a new city in the Desert, but the bulk of the homes are new. This city has grown very fast and the number of new Country Clubs in La Quinta is mind boggling. One of the ways the city has grown is through annexation of unincorporated areas. Country Clubs in La Quinta include La Quinta Country Club, Rancho La Quinta Country Club, Santa Rosa Country Club, The Hideaway Country Club, The Tradition Country Club, Andalucia Country Club, Mountain Gate Country Club, The Citrus Country Club, all of PGA West, Merv Griffin Ranch, The Polo Estates, Trilogy and more. All the schools are newer, great High School as well as Grade Schools. La Quinta also has their own Costco, Lowes, Home Depot, Sam's Club, Walmart and great neighborhood shopping.
